Pierre Rabhi: Agroecology pioneer

On the evening of Friday October 2, a crowd of you came to listen to the farmer, writer and pioneer of agroecology, Pierre Rabhi, who had accepted an invitation from Arlette Rohmer to speak in Sélestat.

After a signing session during which he had a smile and a little word for everyone, the man who, throughout his life, has practiced and shared a way of farming which respects the earth and benefits from moderate consumption, talked about his observations and experience.

« Towards happy sobriety » was an entire programme which Pierre Rabhi rolled out in one go, as if he were telling a story. His story and that of all those who have followed in his wake, such as the Colibris Movement, whose Alsace branch was there to hear him speak, or the Amanins agroecology centre, for whom we have created three militant recipes: Le songe du Colibri (Dream of the Hummingbird), Douce humanité (Sweet Humanity) and Hymne à la terre (Earth Song).

He called for moderation as a powerful action, building a society in which cooperation is the basis of education, saying that « it is man who belongs to the earth and not vice versa »… The words of Pierre Rabhi, punctuated with examples, anecdotes and flashes of humour came across well with his audience.
